Fewer clicks from search results don’t necessarily mean less revenue

Search is changing. AI answers and AI Overviews allow users to get information directly on the search results page, without having to click through to each source.

For publishers, this creates a new reality: organic traffic from informational queries may become less predictable, meaning that a strategy focused solely on “increasing the number of visits” is no longer enough.

The focus is shifting to another metric – Yield, which is the revenue a website generates from a given volume of traffic. In practice, it is closely tied to eCPM and the effectiveness of ad monetization.

What should you do if visits are declining?

Let’s consider a simple scenario. A website used to receive 100,000 visits per month and generate a certain amount of ad revenue. If organic traffic declines, it becomes more difficult to maintain the same revenue solely through the number of ad impressions.

Another approach is to increase the value of each remaining visit.

To do this, a publisher can use multiple ad formats instead of concentrating all revenue on standard banners.

A Combination of Formats Instead of a Single Solution

CTREX allows you to combine different ad placements:

Standard Banner – classic ad placements within the page layout.

Sticky Display – an additional touchpoint that remains visible while users view content.

In-Image – monetization of visual content directly within the image area.

Adwall – a separate format for additional monetization of an engaged audience.

This approach allows you to distribute the ad load across different areas of the page and increase potential revenue per visit.

From Traffic Volume to Traffic Value

Zero-Click doesn’t mean the end of organic traffic. But it changes the rules of the game for content sites.

If attracting each user becomes more valuable, then monetizing that user must also be more effective.

In 2026, it will be important for publishers to measure not only the number of visits but also how much revenue each one generates.

That is precisely why Yield and eCPM are becoming key metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of an advertising strategy.
